ESSEX CRICKET BREAKTHROUGH

Shoaib

Another cricket season ends right on target for Year 10 student Shoaib Shah! After fine performances for school and county he has just been awarded a contract with Essex County Cricket Club to join their Emerging Players Programme (EPP).

The EPP offers young talented players between the ages of 13-16 the opportunity to enhance their game and development through a specialist coaching programme. The programme underpins the County’s main Academy, and sets out to provide players with the appropriate skills to progress to the highest levels.

This programme is exclusively for top players within the Essex CCC age group teams who have shown outstanding potential, character and attitude to further develop their game. The EPP provides specialist training incorporating all aspects of the game, including technical and tactical development, strength and conditioning programmes, sports psychology and life-style workshops. Each player undergoes regular one-to-one reviews with the Performance Manager to assess their current development and to set new targets and goals to help develop their game.

Shoaib is one of only two players in his age group at Essex to step up to this programme and is clearly right on track to realise his ambition of becoming a professional player.  He is already well-known for his cricketing ability at Langdon, but we suspect that this is just the start of a very exciting sporting career.
